The 50th annual Danville Kiwanis 4th of July Parade will begin at 9 a.m., an hour earlier than usual, this year. The parade will begin, as always, at San Ramon High School, at the North end of Hartz Avenue, the main street through the core area. The Wells Fargo stagecoach will attend. Musical entries, antique cars, children’s athletic groups, military units, community groups and a variety of other exhibitionists will attend. As a long-time member of the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis club, I am pleased to be involved in this fun event through which the club raises sponsorship funds which are given to local charities. We will set up our reviewing stand at the corner of Oak Court and San Ramon Valley Boulevard again this year. For the 18th year, it will be my privilege to call the “play by play” action as co-announcer, along with my friend and fellow Kiwanian, Dick Frankel.

On the evening of the 3rd, the Town and Kiwanis are hosting a “Hay Days” celebration to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the settlement of Danville by alien invaders, from Europe, who were exponents of the strange notion that land could be owned by individuals to the exclusion of all others. A picnic will be held at the library green. Hay rides will be offered and, at the Train Depot there will be an old fashioned swimsuit contest, a pet parade, Arabian horses on display, an ice cream truck and more. The stated hours for this event are to be 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail and I will try to help.
